What season is it?

February 16, 20253 min read

have you ever wondered how guys like Ali Abdal, Dan Koe and Zach Pogrob get so much done in their days?

These are guys who built cult followings and created awesome businesses all while working a 9-5 job

None of them claim to be incredibly high IQ

But

they all do this one thing super well

I know what youre thinking, Mike why are you bringing up 2 twitter bros and one ex doctor. They have nothing to with me.

That is where you are wrong…..

they have everything to do with you

You want to improve your body through fitness and nutrition but you cant make the same progress as other people. You are doing the right things but cant figure out why the progress isnt happening.

There are two big issues going on and they can both be solved by determining what season you are in.

Are you in a

  • Social season ( friends and family come first)

  • Work season ( working longer hours)

  • Health season ( putting health and fitness first)

Right now you are trying to do all 3 seasons at once which is impossible. You are trying to give 100% to everything in your life.

Why?

Well only you can answer that, I am here to help you get the most out of it

By determining what type of season you are in, you can put more energy and focus into your needs. If its a work season, your health will go on maintenance and your social events might dwindle for a bit. If its a health season, work may be cut slightly shorter and social events will be less.

You get the point, you cant do it all so you need to have some trade offs.

How to do this

The best way to do this is to make each quarter of the year a different season. If you can be laser focused on one task for 3-4 months of the year, you can do more for that one season than most do in a year.

Think about it this way, you can raise your entire floor by 1-2 point over the course of the year or you can raise your one season section by 5-8 points. Then next quarter you move another bucket 5-8 points.

How to get more done in 3 months than in 1 year

  1. Pick a goal/ season

  2. ex improving your cardio

  3. Define that goal

  4. is that getting better a running, lowering your resting heart rate?

  5. Pick a date to start and end

  6. without a start or end date nothing gets accomplished

  7. Find a mentor or coach

  8. This will shorten your learning curve

  9. Set check in points for this goal

  10. Will you check in every week, month every other week?

  11. Repeat every 3 months with a new goal

Lets say you want to lose 10lbs from now to May. You decided that these next 3 months are a health season. This means you wont be as social as you might have been last season. This also means you will be using more energy in the gym than at work. You already checked and your work schedule aligns with this

You picked your goal (lose weight), you defined it (lose 10lbs), you picked a start and end day ( today —> May). Now you need to determine if you will hire a coach or follow an app program ( hint: hiring a coach will check off steps 4 and 5 but im not biased towards coaching at all)

Now you have your plan and timeline all you need to do is execute it

Hint: the execution is the hardest part
